No Bars after Work Aug 12, 2009 CHARLESTON, S.C. -- A South Carolina sheriff has warned his staff they can't visit local bars and nightclubs after they get off work. The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Wednesday that Colleton County Sheriff George Malone said two of the county's recent deadly shootings have either occurred in or stemmed from arguments at local clubs and bars. Malone says it's unethical for his employees to visit the businesses. He says a deputy is never really off duty. Malone says it looks bad if a deputy is drinking at a club when an incident occurs. He says any of his employees, including administrators and clerical staff, will be reprimanded and could be fired if they violate the rule. The rule doesn't apply to restaurants that serve alcohol or to bars outside the county. |
