What is MCOPS ?
Maryland COPS stands for Maryland Coalition Of Police and Deputy
Sheriffs. Maryland COPS is a state-wide association of unions and associations
of working law enforcement officers.. We provide a wealth of representation, organizational, and
advocate support for associations and unions of law enforcement officers in Maryland.
Maryland COPS was formed by a group which met in Columbia, MD in 1990, led by
police officers in the Howard County Police Department and representing law
enforcement from eight departments throughout the state. In 1995, Maryland COPS was reformed on a pattern developed by its
sister organization in Virginia, Virginia COPS.
Maryland COPS is a working cops organization, not a charity. It is a police officer and
deputy sheriffs organization which works hard to improve the lot of Maryland's working law
enforcement officers. It is supported by its affiliated organizations throughout the state
and by citizen and organizational contributions and support. Maryland COPS doesn't just
work on behalf of its members, though. We are committed to working hard for all members of
the Maryland law enforcement community. Our projects are designed to improve policing in
every department in the state of Maryland.
